1, i'm super happy that we landed johnson. i wanted him the most of all the visits this past weekend although obviously, every kid was a huge talent and we need them all plus more. o-line is our biggest need in my position and a talent like this is certainly a great step in the right direction.
2. living in big ten country here in ohio, i can tell you that every fan i talked to, and i know a lot of diehard ohio state and michigan fans and none of them are happy about the big ten going after maryland and rutgers. they basically do not think either school adds anything in football or basketball and they all said it just waters down the conference. one big osu booster told me that the big ten should have got pitt and syracuse when they had the chance. rutgers academics dont seem to fit the big ten profile either.
3. as for pitt...i think the ACC is a great fit for the style of pitt's play and their tradion and history. if you think about it, alot of pitt's deep history in football includes games against clemson, florida state, georgia tech, north carolina, miami, vt , nc state and others. add in notre dame, and its a very good fit.
4. the only negative about maryland leaving is i saw them as a win in football and bastball when we played them most years, so you never like to loose the soft touch type teams while you are rebuilding.
go panthers! brian

do we really want to get back to playing uconn and louisville in football? I thought that's why we left the Big East? so fans could see Miami and Florida State, etc come to Heinz Field, not Uconn and Louisville? (again, not that Pitt has been lighting it up lately in football)

Maybe. But you still have to win Reed. Just like when WVU was moving to the SEC (lol) and then to the Big 12. There are the Indiana's and Minnesota's of the world too.
We really didn't get the jump in recruiting by going to the ACC that we thought. Oh sure, we now have landed DJ, and looks like possibly Foster and Boyd but not one of them cited Pitt to the ACC as a reason.
Rutgers definitely has something to sell now...but they were doing fairly well recruiting wise anyway. But a few 5-7 seasons, and they will fade back to being Rutgers. Maryland's excuses are entirely their own.

today's thoughts dorian, big 10, etc...
