You should be excited about your OL evaluators

  • Here's a look at why you've got plenty of reason to be excited about the evaluators on staff, particularly when it comes to OL.

Wisconsin and Iowa are the top offensive line evaluators

Some programs just have an eye for talent and no programs have a better eye for offensive line talent than Iowa and Wisconsin.

  • I'll be interested to see if it really was Hueber and Chryst identifying these guys. I certainly hope so!

  • No surprise about Iowa, "Kirk Ferentz" is the key guy there. Spent two years as a Grad Assistant under Joe Moore. Nobody was ever better the Moore at evaluating talent on the OL.

A couple weeks back I spoke with Shane Dowty an assistant coach at The College of the Dessert, and he spent a couple of years as an Iowa GA, and told me the rule of thumb for OL at Iowa, was "Would Joe Moore offer the player?"

I t was actually kind of interesting that an assistant at a JC, who is still very young himself, would have heard of Joe Moore..

  • Joe Moore has left an incredible impact on all of his players and anyone he ever coached with or helped out along the way. This is the first time in awhile that I have looked at the OL they are bringing in and have gotten excited. Not because I think these guys are going to walk in and dominate from day 1. Because they finally seem to bringing in the type of kids that have the tools necessary to develop. Instead of bringing in a kid who is 6 foot 5 and 340 or 350 who can't move they are bringing in kids that are 6 foot 5 275 who can move. You can build those guys up and continue to develop them. When you get a kid who is 340 or 350 you have to break them down and build them back up physically. Either that or they remain at that weight and continue to struggle.
