We weren't too far from a national championship this year

  • I know most of you agree. Look at what's happening: ND is playing for in the MNC game. We got screwed by the refs and should have won.

Lost to Louisville but had some bad breaks. They're kicking the crap out of Florida in the Sugar Bowl.
We lost to CT but again, bad Big East refs did us in
YSU: yeah, new coach, lots of problems in the transition,
Cincy: our only true loss. we played a bad game. But Bama also has a loss to a bowl team and is playing for the MNC.
Cuse: Another bowl winner where we had some balls bounce the wrong way.

Obviously, not everything went our way this year. New coach, new system, injuries, suspensions, curses, etc. Still, after watching what our bowl opponents are doing, no one can deny that we were just a few small steps away from playing for it all. I really think we'll be there next year provided we get quality play from the QB. HTP!

    Are you drunk? Lol

On a seriouis note. Our performance this year and your post does indicate we had more talent on the roster than most fans give them credit for. Im not saying this to bash PC but the talent was there to be better than 6-6.

are you watching the l'ville game against uf? did you watch our nd game, which was AT nd? give me a break. PC will clean up the mistakes and you'll see. if he was hired instead of haymaker, this year would have been quite different.

I agree that it sucks to watch, but I disagree about the bad breaks. 2009 team was closer to the NC than this team. Missed going undefeated by... was it single digits? And then Cinci was MNC game bound until Colt McCoy got a magic second added to the clock. Pitt literally would've been a second away from playing for the MNC in 2009 if they made a field goal here, got a bounce or a call there.

This team was not even nearly as close as 2009.

Then again, bad breaks and bad calls are part of the game. Everyone faces them, and the great teams overcome them. I'll give you the Notre Dame one, though. Luck of the Irish is hard to compete with.

EDIT: They were 11 points away from playing in the national championship game. Not like, "got blown out a couple of times but it was because of bad breaks." Literally, 11 points away from the national championship. And they had a chance to win their biggest (by point spread) loss (NC STATE by 7) -- four shots from inside the 20, and couldn't punch it in.

We need a QB. That's what makes a coach look good.

There is no way you can convince a SEC-region native that football is even being played outside of their corner of the US. Let them enjoy their bowl games and the illusion of being superior. Look at it like a baby's pacifier .. it's kinda like population control .. they're happy .. consuming wings and greasy food .. drinking massive amounts of alcohol .. and laying around in an unhealthy stupor .. while their arsenal of guns are sitting idle.

Gotta take it one step at a time.
    Play well in the conference
    Go to a decent bowl.
Win a bowl game against a good team.
    Win the conference.
    Play in a BCS bowl.
    Win a BCS bowl game.
Get lucky and get invited to play for the NC
    Win it.

    That's going to take time.

  • This thread is a joke right? I think Notre Dame is really overrated and yes Pitt was robbed in that game but I can't even read this without laughing. YSU ends this craziness.

  • Blank stare is a perfect example as to why we need to expand mental healthcare in this country. Poor fellow could rationalize Auburn being in the title game this year.

And as for the sec dominance that you can't comprehend, the conference is going for 7 national titles in a row, and 8 outta 11. Thats approaching a decade brah. Never the less, I'll just inform you that in your neck of the woods, it's lacrosse and hockey. We would concede that.

    Nah.

    Recruit a great QB.
Win a conference title and BCS/Playoff bowl game.

It can happen quick when you get a winner at QB. Look at Lville.

Well .. that's correct. But that's not what most of you would like others to believe.

I lived in Florida and every year when Tampa, Miami or Jacksonville would draft guys from some no-name school or even from the Pac-12, etc .. the idiots would be out in full force asking "why didn't they draft the kid from Auburn .. he's a beast! Maurice Jones-who? blah blah blah."

Sorry, bolden. The overwhelming majority of SEC fans are out of touch with reality.

I mean, there's nothing more wonderful than your heart attack special primanti sandwich eaten by a fat dude in a wife beater sitting on a plaid couch from the 70's with a knit yarned quilt.

You nailed it. Us sec folk are way behind y'all.

I'm a realist and understand there are elite players everywhere. I do believe their is a larger conglomeration of them in the SEC. That doesn't always relate to the best teams or even the best nfl players.
