I don't know how well PSU will do this coming season, but their opener is going to be tougher then people realize. Ohio U has a lot of talent returning from last year's team that was 10-4, they were something like 18 points from being undefeated.

Also the game will be a homecoming for 4 starters, from neighboring Blair County.

Alphonso Lewis RS/SR OLB Altoona PA Neal Huynh RS/SR DT Altoona PA Tyler Futrell RS/SR WR Altoona PA Ryan McGrath RS/JR OT Hollidaysburg PA

That Ohio game should be an interesting one they have taken other B1G teams down to the wire in the recent past (OSU). I think UVA is an interesting test early and Navy will provide a great test for our front 7 and we will see what life is like after Devon Still.

When the head football coach is fired. Wait. I mean when Joe Paterno is fired you will never convince me that the football program was not involved.

There was a tremendous amount of cover up activity going on up there. I say it over and over. A dead DA? Are you kidding me?

Sanctions and jail time is in psu future. Look out Corbett.

Now about this coming year? I'm still shocked that kids are migrating up there into that black hole. I give O'Brien a lot of credit.

you are entitled to your own opinion, but calling PSU a black hole really wont get civil responses in a FOOTBALL conversation.

As far as sanctions, no matter how much you may want them to happen, you will be disappointed. As has been repeated time and time again, this is not an NCAA matter, it is a legal matter. No NCAA rules were broken. Because of this the NCAA cannot step in and place sanctions on the program. They are not the law and this is not their jurisdiction. You can choose to ignore this information or you can be open minded and think about it. Up to you.

As far as jail time, I hope so my friend. Spanier and Graham should get jail time as should Corbett. But only time will tell.

I think that a lot of PSU fans are very optimistic for this year. The offense should be better and the defense will hopefully be strong as usual. Thought I am slightly worried about Roof. I think an 8-9 win year would be good, but I wouldnt be surprised if we got more due to a soft early schedule.

Reed, it is not just "we". I think a few years ago, SI or one of the online sites did an analysis of the most underperforming football teams based on preseason expectations relative to final finish. Pitt was tied with Michigan State for #1 in underperforming.

In the last 2-3 years, we have done nothing to change this.

Yardbarker.com recently rated us #7 in their list of the top 10 under performing- most disappointing teams of, I believe the last decade.

  • What has happened for Pitt to underachieve in the 2000s?

Was it injuries, coaching, bad attitudes, discipline issues?

For instance Clemson is my most disappointing team of the 2000s, along with FSU. They always seem to have their key players get hurt, get arrested, or flunk before a season starts, or before any meaningful games. Horrible discipline issues with both programs. Has Pitt had trouble with things like this before?

‏@Cordale10 Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS

  • When I think of under-achieving, I instantly think of Notre Dame.. Every summer we hear the "we're back" BS, and every fall we watch them fall flat on their face against the likes of Tulsa, Syracuse, USF etc.

As for PSU, it literally all depends on the QB play. Paul Jones is our only hope. He can throw the ball over 60 yards with a flick of his wrist, but his reads need to get better.

And for the NCAA investigation.. I really don't know what to expect. Penn State isn't even listed as one of the current cases on NCAA.org. As mentioned, this is a legal issue. The NCAA can't pick and choose what legal matters to explore. If the NCAA sanctioned PSU, but ignored Florida for all of the arrests, Arkansas for Petrino, TCU for drugs etc., they would be facing a major lawsuit that would cost them millions. I would guess that the NCAA will review things to see if they can find any broken NCAA rules and that they will give their own suggestions to make sure this never happens again..

There wasn't any great attempt at disparaging psu anymore than the actual sandusky fiasco itself. A black hole isn't a bad place as far as anyone really knows.

Do you know anything about the black hole chas? It was meant as a paraphrase of the unknown. Which no one would argue that the situation up in state college is tenuous at best. As well as unknown.

I just find it remarkable that parents would be so eager to have their young sons go up there to play football. I also stick by my words as saying that O'Brien deserves a lot of credit for a great job so far.
