Pitt stuff...

  • Regarding Carl Fleming: The untold story is that he was a victim of Trayvon Martin. You may recall that smears against Martin's character included an empty bag of pot being found on him.Fleming was out driving around when he was stopped by the cops. This was days after the Martin story broke. Carl had a small baggie filled with pot. Instead of eating the pot, he attempted to swallow the entire baggie and was unable to, leading to his arrest.
If I'm not mistaken, one is charged by the amount of pot in your possession. An empty baggie with residue doesn't get you arrested.

i never thought about steve williams to olb, but i like it. hes bigger than i thought at 6'2" 215 and hes fast. hes a playmaker and hard hitter from what i saw in the spring game. i assume he would be an olb and bam would be an mlb. pitts olb core would be todd thomas, eric williams, jason frimpong, nick grigsby, devon porchia, steve williams. the mlb group would be dan mason, juan price, shane gordon and bam bradley. i see a lot of speed, athleticism, and talent at olb and uncertainty at mlb. maybe if that mike something from psu transfers to pitt that would help mlb a lot

I see Steve Williams taking over for Jarred Holley......It has been awhile since a safety with that size and speed has roamed the secondary for Pitt.....

I think Shell has the burst to be a player on the college level. The thing I question with him is his long speed and his wiggle. He has a few moves but I don't think he is going to break someone down the way Shady or Dion Lewis did.

i wonder the same. he doesnt need to be a break away rb and run away from db's. bama's heisman winner couldnt do that and he was a great back. bu the wiggle part i worry about also, but we really wont know until he starts scrimmaging.

There are a ton of successful college RBs who didn't have "wiggle". Eric Dickerson was a straight ahead runner and he was one of the best.

Stanford's Toby Gerhart was amazingly productive and he wasn't a June bug out there.

The list goes on and on...

sure...but there are also plenty who had great high school careers but didnt make it in college for that reason.

like they say...thats why they play the game. we will finf out soon enough.

plus, we have several good rb's, i much more worried about our o-line and the qb position than rb.

    go panthers!

Yeah, but Dickerson was 6'3 230lbs w/ 4.3 speed and sub 10.3 100 meter time.

Gerhart was a power back 235-240lbs in college. He didn't need much wiggle.

Shell is a Maurice Clarett clone in style. He runs w/ a good base and good pad level. He hasn't had to develop a ton of wiggle because he overwhelmed the parkway w/ his physicality. He is the hardest back I've ever evaluated to be honest. He has a very average to below average line in HS. He gets the ball on every other down. Everyone knows he's getting it. Yet, he still produced.

  • one thing about shell is he really hasnt lifted weights seriously yet and he certainly hasnt had a conditioning and speed program like he will get at pitt either. i think they can really add to his talents.

    go panthers!
