Camp gets more intense, spirited in preparation of full pads on Friday

  • I was at the Pirate game after camp today, so I posted the camp notes a little later today. Look for today's camp report within the hour.

  • I think we have some very talented athletes who will push the older guys out of the way .. especially at WR and OL. The 2010 and 2011 seasons were reality checks .. just not enough speed. Luckily, despite their lack of stars, some of these guys appear to be really good. Isaac Bennett is a great example .. though Pitt seems to be a magnet for RB talent. Then others like Price, Christian, Banks and Vinopal are quality transfers. If Chryst can coach, then watch the F out. This year is about hitting people again. Next year is about an ACC title and then maybe more. Shell, Voytik, Chryst .. no pressure on them .. right? (=

We'll see more at the scrimmage tomorrow but the starting three WRs may well be the same as last season - Shanahan, Street and Saddler.

Both Felder and Jones will be in the mix come Game One though. Those are the speed receivers.

Those FR OL players will be on the 2nd team and save Bisnotaway probably won't 'push' the OL starters much at all.

  • I predict a 7-5 campaign .. which means changes will be made. If we win then there probably won't be much pressure to play younger more talented athletes. It's sort of a pessimistic and optimistic way to look at it. I'm hoping we win but you can't deny the lack of speed at WR and the desperation on the OL. There is more competition at more positions right now than there has been in a long time at Pitt .. and that's how it works when guys transfer, get suspended, coaches are fired/quit and games are lost. I love watching a team rebuild . .especially with guys like Shell, Voytik, Felder, Tinker, Bisnowaty waiting on deck.

  • I'd rather watch a team reload.

The Dodgers are coming to the Burgh in August. They're leaving you complimentary tickets at the Will Call booth.

  • Reed said it perfectly,
by second team offensive linemen, I don't necesarily mean they are second team on the two deep,
Heuber is trying to develop them together as a group,
but players like John Guy who is a walk on, will not be seeing time on the line in a game any time soon.
the scrimmage will sort some things out,
I will have more on my camp reports later today
and should have much more solid observations after the scrimmage tomorrow

There's something exciting about a high turnover on a roster. Plus .. college football rebuilding is a quick process. Not as painful as watching the Detroit Lions rebuild.
