    I fail to see how SP's interest in Cristobal has anything to do with his firing at FIU. The situations are completely different.

    How does Cristobal's situation at FIU have anything to do with the circumstances he'd have had he been hired at Pitt? We, as Pitt fans, don't really know much about the situation he was in at FIU this year, nor could we ever hope to know how he'd do had he taken the Pitt job. It's just an excuse for people to continue irrationally attacking SP by assuming one situation would play out the same as another when the context is completely different.

    It doesn't. All we know is he tried to hire a coach that was fired by FIU because he couldn't cut the mustard in the Sun Belt conference.

    How many coaches who get fired by programs like FIU go on to do great things elsewhere?

    Fired by FIU. Not fired by the Dolphins.

    Ski. Do you understand that steve did not hire PC? He was taken off the hiring committee altogether. Sounds like to me they made the right decision. steve's man's wife didn't want to move to Pittsburgh and her husband couldn't coach a football team to save his life.

    Sounds like a steve choice. It's not irrationally kicking steve, he deserves it. He's a bum He wanted to hire a bum. TG the second if you will. Except not as good.

  • It's generally a mark against those that supported Cristobal, though not damningly so.

    As an extreme but illustrative example, Joe Torre was 894-1003 when the Yankees hired him, yet he was fabulously successful there. His managerial style was very well suited for the Yankees; without going too far into it, it was probably a better fit than he had experience with the Cardinals, Braves, and Mets.

    The point is that you should hire somebody that you think will have success at your program. For FIU, it's next to impossible to generate lasting success. That may be the case at Pitt as well, though it remains to be seen. But a guy that can get FIU to play well, even if it's only one year out of two or three, may still be a viable candidate at Pitt.

    Who knows if Johnny Majors would have won titles at Iowa State? His records at Iowa State were 3-7, 3-7, 5-6, 8-4, and 5-6-1. If he had stayed there a few more years, would there have been more 8-4s or more 3-7s? Who knows.

    So, yes, it's a mark against Cristobal-supporters from last year, but it's not the nail in the coffin.

    I get that. But then, people across the 'net have been saying it's SP's fault if PC leaves for Wisky. Just seems like he's screwed no matter what. And just to clarify, I'm not defending SP.

    Ya gotta wonder what dinner conversation is like at his home. Either arrogance and avoidance or they're talking about which moving company they want to use to get out of town. Can't be very "chit-chatty" over dinner.
