I am going to jump before anyone else. No. No. Navy is not a player in college football they bring no cache. None at all. They may have tradition, pomp and circumstance, but if they did bring anything, they would have already been in the Big East or ACC.
This is completely Darwinistic (though short sighted) and it only is going to involve the power brokers and those in the power markets.
Luckily...however this shakes out, Pittsburgh is still a top 25 media market and that may save our arse in the end.

I posted 3 years ago, before the raids took place. That the big east should have brought in Navy and brought back BC. Notre Dame's natural rivals. Also Maryland has been looking to leave the ACC for years.
The big east and the ACC are one in the same, they both react instead of being proactive.

I'd love Navy! The ACC needs only one thing, a team or two to become a yearly fixture in the National Championship race. FSU and VTech need to step it up. Navy is a perfect add. They won't challenge either of those schools. Teams like Pitt, Wake, NC State and GaTech are death to a conference. We never do anything positive we just ruin stuff for everyone else-LOL! I hope Pitt can break free of its shackles and be a relevant opponent for VaTech. You need a good dynamic amongst your teams.
You need the protagonist. The Mich's, Ohio States, Bama's and Florida's and such. They are the teams everyone watches because every game they play matters on the national scene and quite frankly, watching the best at anything always pays off.
You need a foil. The protagonist needs someone to fight against to get to the top. The foil is that nationally respected team that has the national media has circled on the calander as a team that could bring down the champ.
You need the supporting cast. Most teams in the conference need to sit back and know their role. Clean-up in OOC and compete with the other supporting folks in the din of background noise beneath the big boys. Don't get too crazy and do anything stupid like knock off the Protagonist or foil though. When a support knocks off one of the bigs, it brings them down to the level of the supporting cast not vice versa! If it happens too often, the national folks lose interest in the protagonist and the story (conference) altogether. See Big East.
Comic relief. You need to balance out the protagonist with the truely bad program(s) that can allow the supporting folks to be rewarded for knowing their place. The comic relief exists to get the support programs to bowl eligability. In turn, everyone in the conference lauds them for their academic greatness.
Navy, could be a good support program. FSU and VaTech are the protagonists. Clemson and hopefully Pitt could be the foils. Comic relief would be Duke and Wake Forest. Everyone else is in support.

Seriously I glossed over your post and can't tell if it's sarcasm or not. Navy, PITT, and BC, all three are natural rivals for ND.
Navy is by far the most popular Academy in the country and they have such a beautiful campus with a huge TV market. I'm not saying that Navy owns the market at all. They are nation wide though. They even have decent teams every now and again and a move to the ACC might just improve on that.
