EDIT: Charlie Batch is our savior again

  • I had to turn the TV off after Sanders' fumble.

It has to be in the rulebook somewhere .. if you have a 3rd string QB -- on the road at Baltimore -- complete a game changing pass for huge yards -- and the invisible man strips the ball, then you automatically lose. Right??

EDIT: Wasn't it Batch who saved our 2005 super bowl season when Ben got injured?

  • That was an incredible win all things considered (being without Ben, Ike, and Woodly). Tomlin is a hell of a coach.............period. Dude is able to get his team ready to play.

I do think Wallace is way over rated and close to useless.

  • The future is not so bright because we're paying too much money for guys who aren't worth it any longer. Wallace isn't necessarily one of those guys. But let's just forget it for now .. that was an incredible performance by Charlie Batch and company.

I have onyl ever asked for one autograph in my life and it was Charlie Batch's while he was with Detroit in 1998. He's my favorite NFL person ever. Loved seeing him take us down the field in the final minutes and then having a cathartic moment with Big Ben .. in celebration. Wow .. very emotional .. might be his last start and last win and it was HUGE!!! What a cool guy. Love ya Batch .. you da man! CLUTCH BABY! It's everything in life!

and yeah .. i turned the TV back on (no DVR .. i swear on my life)

  • I hate to be the Steelers optimist, but who really are you scared of in the AFC if Ben, DeCastro, Troy, Woodley, Colon, Taylor and Adams back healthy for the playoffs? Harrison seems to be coming back to life, Worilds actually has a heartbeat providing depth, Hampton back into shape and getting a push, Thimmons playing like a Pro-Bowler flying all over the field etc.

5.) Colts - Not scared at all. Probably won't see anyways
4.) Broncos - They have become one dimenional with the loss of McGahee, plus the Steelers had them whooped till the end of the game to start the season. Ike has improved greatly since then as has Peyton. I like Pittsburgh.
3.) Ravens - A really bad team that catches a lot of breaks. We beat them with chuck, and barely lost with a broken down Byron. This team needed a 4th and 29 generous spot to beat San Diego. Not scared at all.
2.) Patriots - Tom Brady always scares the hell out of me, but thier defense is bad again. If they are not forcing you into mistakes, you can pick them apart with the run or pass. How good will Gronk be afte the injury? Besides Welker, the WR's stink. I like us if Healthy.
1.) Texans - OK, these guys scare the crap out of me. They are balanced and their DL would eat out OL alive. Not sure how the steelers would beat them in round 2, but I said that about the colts vs steelers back in 2006.

Beautiful post. Other than referring to Hampton as being in shape. What shape would that be? The earth?

EDIT: Wasn't it Batch who saved our 2005 super bowl season when Ben got injured?

He started against GB and passed for 65 yards and 1 INT. He then started against the Browns and passed for 150 yards. GB was 4-12, Cleveland was 6-10.

It's nice having him but I don't think he saved the the 2005 season. After he won those 2 starts when Ben was hurt, we proceeded to lose the next 3 games if you remember. 1 w/ Tommie and 2 w/ Ben. After that, the boys turned it up a notch just like they will have to this year.

  • He really threw it well tonight .. driving the ball. It was impressive. I guess he didn't really do much in '05 .. but he's a professional and did his job. It's nice to see a good guy have a good game against a bunch of bad guys.

    Pitt0008mmd

  • For the most part he played great especially considering his age and his lack of play the past few years.

  • dammit, just read Ike is out 2-6 weeks with an injured Fibula...Will these injuries ever end?

I guess we'll see what Cortez Allen and Curtis Brown are made of. I think both of these guys are really good, but really on the thin side....especially Brown. I was VERY impressed with Allen's ball skills and he seemed to be right there with Torrie Smith and was making great plays on the ball. I even thought the pass interference he got called on was questionable.

  • The Steelers have great young guys in the defensive backfield. They need Ben back.

  • Living in Baltimore...Today will be a great work day...( :

    Smegma

  • I get "meh" about the Steelers. Had season tickets, obviously grew up with their greatness and the local media adulation is always over the top. But...

You see why. 3rd string QB. 3rd string RT. Backups at Center and Guard. Top RB benched. Top WR coming off injury. Other one demoted. Top LB hurt. Top CB out after the first series. Others banged up. At a place where they not only want to beat you, but rub your noses in it. 15 home game winning streak. On top of that. You miss a wide open TD pass. You have another likely TD pass fumbled.

And you win. That is what the Steelers do. Adversity is just a word to them. They don't dwell on it. Just another classy performance. Ghost can hate on them, but if some of that toughness and resilience rubs off on our Panthers, they will be the better for it.

I actually got excited for a Steeler game yesterday. First time in a few years. Why? Opening kickoff the Ravens were already starting stuff. I was laughing, because those of you who follow hockey would understand. You don't poke the injured tiger when he is down. Like the Flyers did a few years ago in the playoffs....

I don't think so. Wallace is gone. Benchenhall is gone. Hampton will be gone. Likely Harrison will be gone or restructured. Polemalu maybe too. Young OLine now....Young DB's emerging.

What has cost the Steelers is what looks like bad picks with Ziggy Hood and Cam Heyward.

the key is they have to try and get something in return for these guys. I know it won't be much but just something.

Same here. It was satisfying to watch for a change. The Ravens have a bad guy coaching them and bad guys playing for them. They're never going to win anything with that QB or that coach.

Some head coach needs to pick a harbaugh and sucker punch the big mouth right in the throat! They both sicken me.

I don't know about John, but if Jim can get his teeth broken from Greg Lloyd, me thinks he can take a punch..

  • I have it on good authority (of the nfl variety) that the Harbaughs are all talk and do nothing as coaches.
