How do you hard sell Foster if you're Pitt? Threaten him that there won't be a spot? C'mon, let's be serious. The kid chose Bama over Pitt. I'm as disappointed as anyone, but I'm also a realist here.
Hard selling wasn't going to do anything here.
You put the full court press on. You don't relax sell. When I say "hard sell" I don't mean threaten to pull his ship.
have any other advice for our coaching staff? I mean they are obviously ignorant when it comes to recruiting. Im sure they could use some more pointers
Secondly we currently have 1 commit from the 6 uncomitted kids. key word being currently. lets say three more from that list commit and he gets 4 of the 6. Does he need to tweak then?
Lastly in case you havent paid attention we have been to 3 straight BBVA compass bowls "sealing" probably isnt as easy as you think it is. Can this be the 5th and final time you post about this subject?
Honestly, I think it's disingenuous to think that Pitt didn't have the full court press on this kid. Pitt was selling hard, real hard. He just didn't buy. Not sure there was much else to do. Like I said, I'm as bummed as anyone. It would've been a huge win for Pitt., but the kid wants to play at Bama... I can't really blame him.
Thanks rock. What are message boards for? I can't make some observations? Where my comments that bad?
Guys, this thing isn't over. Commitments mean nothing until the name's on the line. Right now, we're in the driver's seat for this kid. But that could change tomorrow. Or several times between now and NSD.
But there ya go - accuse Saban of cheating when you lose a kid to Bama. Awesome.
Wow. Someone who knows what he's talking about and saying it to the media.
Honestly .. this is the kind of stuff i've been told over and over by well-connected folks in the football world. The SEC is real real dirty. Missouri wanted nothing to do with the SEC .. but the Big Ten didn't want them .. so they tried like hell to either have one of the cheaters move to the east or (as it were) get placed in the east themselves. You think Ohio State is dirty? Nothing compares to what they do down south .. especially SEC west schools like Arkansas, LSU, Alabama and Auburn. Not to take anything away from the level of cheating at Florida and Tennessee and certainly Georgia .. but the 'west' is horrendous.
The pain you must feel. Talk to me, Pitt0000000000008. Talk to 92DT. Let's make it better.
You are making a lot of assumptions, none of which that can be proven.
Divorced, getting fit and trying to keep my head above water
I don't know what i can say. I'm sorry you are taking such great pleasure in this. I'm personally not affected. You can believe it or not .. but i doubt anyone here would have visited your message boards to brag, if we had won this recruitment battle.
No but people read them. The same topic doesnt need rehashed over and over and over again. Some people will agree with you and some people wont
It's pertinent when a 5 star local kid doesn't choose Pitt, don't you think. You don't have to read it.
Btw, apparently fosters coach said Alabama did a better job recruiting him. You better call him up and let him know that chryst is infallible.
Never said he was infallible but you act like you have a clue what and how he talks to recruits when you dont.
Losing a 5 star is a big deal to you maybe but i lost a dad to cancer within the past couple years so it kind of puts where an 18 year old wants to go play college in a little perspective to me. Whatever im over it. Ill be a fan no matter what
I dont give a shit what his coach says. He was going to Pitt until today according to some sources so Pitt must have not done to bad considering Saban has a touch more to sell than Chryst does.
your entitled to your opinion like i said its about the 5th different thread you write the same point. But once again you are stating an opinion but you post like it is a fact
Sorry for the loss of your father ... sincerely ... but you're bringing him up one moment to defend what a big deal this isn't, then continuing to argue it.
read a little closer i said it is a big deal to him but it is not a big deal to me. Would i want Robert Foster in a Pitt uniform? Absolutely. Do i care? Absolutely not
First, sorry to hear about your father.
Second, you are way off base on your post. We just lost a local talent and I am speculating why....for the 3rd time if you dont like what I write don't read it. If you have more important things to do than worry about recruiting don't open threads like this.
It has been reported on all 3 sites that chryst uses a "relaxed" approach...so take it up with them. His coach who knows the situation better than YOU and I gives his opinion and you weren't happy with his either.
I will still be a fan too.
it was more about you making the same point over and over again in numerous threads moreso than your actual opinion. But im done arguing i got better things to do and im sure you do to
Why are you still here? I am absolutely serious. Are you bored? need a friend? rubbernecking?
In truth, I'm probably more liked on here than you
If that's the case then let it be known right now.
I would rather watch a replay of this year's Pitt-ND game (on repeat) for an eternity than participate on a message board which prefers you over me.
I would simply quit this site if that were the case.
I did not see the coach's comment but I do not think it had anything to do with Alabama's "hard sell" versus Pitt's "soft sell". I think he was referring to something else. And this isn't a veiled suggestion that someone was paid.
one thing pitt fans need to consider is this...we lost some big recruits that we wanted under wanny.
they went to michigan, notre dame and north carolina among others.
50% of those recruits transfered back. (felder, vinopol, banks, etc)
30% of those who tranfered back have or will start at pitt.
so...even if they choose another shcool, it may not work out. even if they transfer back...it may not work out,

If you believe Robert foster's own words it was God who told him to choose Alabama.
""I made up my mind this morning," Foster said. "I got on my knees and asked God to give me the right answer. This morning, He told me the best fit for me was Alabama."
Foster's mother, Sherrice Clements, said he sent a text message to family members Wednesday saying he was going to choose Pitt, but changed his mind Friday morning."
Knowing that and understanding that Chryst was recruiting against not only Nick Saban but The Big Kahuna himself lessens the impact a bit... but Chryst has to be able to land these blue chip kids if he wants PITT to be successful.
How can Chryst not have God in his corner though? Something doesn't add up.....this isn't over yet
So I asked a friend of mine who is in the recruiting side of things about soft/hard recruiting and asked who are the successful soft recruiters.. He said in Florida alone, they've had several guys who've been successful who push the whole "go check out the other schools to make sure that this is the place you want to be" motto.. He said that Larry Cokor, Randy Shannon, Ron Zook, and our very own Dave Wannstedt were known as guys who made sure a player knew he was loved but didn't force the issue.
