In college football. You get kids to commit when you can. It's really that simple. Nick saban and urban meyer dont do anything soft.
In all honesty, and I say this as a die hard Pitt fan, if you compare what Bama has to offer football wise to what pitt has to offer, its not even close. The fact that Pitt was even in this is pretty amazing. Unless you have info that says the staff blew this, Im not sure its fair to crticize them.
A "Real PITT MAN"............get off my porch!
Bobby Bowden seemed to do ok with that approach.. In Jimmy Johnson's book he talks about that being a difference between the 2.
You can always pick 1 guy it worked for. you have to disagree with everything I say. Name the one example.
Who are the top recruiters right now? 9/10 are hard sell guys.
If psu didn't receive sanctions we would be locked out.

According to the Trib article the other day, both staffs really slow played him, didn't pressure him, and let him decide for himself.
Therefore, your point is invalid. Saban didn't pressure the kid at all. His mother, who preferred Pitt, even said so.
Hail to Pitt.
Local is a major advantage. His best friend is a player on the team.
Nick saban doesn't soft sell anyone.
if i do recall, yesterday when i questioned goadie a few of you gave me quite a large amount of attitude. Dont trust everything you hear, boys.
Foster was never going to commit to Pitt on his visit. From my outsider POV, he picked this weekend b/c his mom was going to be home for Christmas. It is a dead period. He can't even talk to the coaches. I still believe he wasn't ready, and I will continue to hope he flips. Hope he qualifies and does well wherever he ends up.
It sucks but we got our man at QB and then some.
This kid wants to get paid. We need guys who want to work for a win. Alabama offers the payday and the greatest guarantee of victory. Good for them.
Pitt vs Bama .. that's like night and day. Win at minimal cost vs Win at absolutely every cost.
Do you have a link handy to show Alabama pays players? A link to where Alabama has been accused by the nc2a?
I'll get right on it, mr giggles. Send my regards to the tickle monster.
Let's don't kid ourselves that this isn't a huge loss for Chryst and PITT. First Johnson leans toward PITT and chooses PSU then Foster leans toward PITT and chooses Alabama.
We have to land the available blue chip kids in WPA and the fact that we didn't is a big deal.
Thats kinda what I figured talking out your a**.
sorry nick, my guess was better than your, " pitt ;lock from day 1", some day pitt fans, will come to understand that when we are fighting the big boys for a big time player, there is no such thing as lock till the letter of intent is signed. not the first time and won't be the last, now lets go out and get some others.

In all honesty, I dont take this stuff seriously and was having fun with it. I really dont understand the angst fans experience over where an 18 year old kid decides to go to college. Some folks are way too wrapped up in this stuff.
Having said that I did believe Goadie because he does seem to have "connections" to this kid anyway. its a bit of a surprise but I truly believe that the program isnt going to sink or swim on where one kid goes.
By the way Reed, that should be Johnson leaned toward Pitt, Chose PSU, decommitted, flirted with OSU and verbally committed to PItt...................we'll see if he signs on the dotted line.
One last point, when the program has been as mediocre as its been for the past 30 years and we had the Stevie P circus show with all the coaching changes, is anyone really surprised when we lose a big time recruit?
He's going to Alabama. You don't think he's going to qualify there?
Isnt Johnson a Pitt Committ? isnt Pitt a Boyd lean right now?
Reed, the bigger issue IMO is making sure the staff has an eye for talent because Pitt is NOT goign to win many of these blue chip battles until the program has more success than it has and has some stability in the coaching staff.
"Alex, I'll take 'Things Losers Say' for $100." Honestly, give one comparison between Pitt and Bama football right now that is better for Pitt.
We are playing in our 3rd NC in 4 years. We consistently have the top ranked recruiting classes. Our facilities are second to none. We play in the best conference in college football. Our tradition is rivaled by only a few and we have the best coach in college football.
Our records since 2008 are as follows:
2008: 12-2 (Played in the SECCG)
2009: 14-0 (SEC and National Champions)
2011: 12-1 (SEC and National Champions)
2012: 12-1 (SEC Champs and playing for National Championship)
So that's 7 losses in the last five seasons. Pitt had 6 losses THIS season.
I think Pitt is a great school and every once in awhile has some great football teams, but right now there is no comparison between the two programs. So no, it's no surprise that Foster chose Bama. He wants to play for championships more than he does the home team.
How do you know?
DJ and Tra are here. So is Kincaide.
Divorced, getting fit and trying to keep my head above water
Dj wouldn't be here he commited to psu before the sanctions.
This is a Pitt thread I don't see why Bama fans should chime in on this.
1st: This might not be over. This feels like another Ejuan Price. Kid loves the hometown school. Kid gets oferred by best program in land. Kid gets star struck. Kid commits to star program. When the time comes to actually make the commitment, kid gets buyers remorse and switches to hometown school. Thats what I hope anyway.
I think Boyd is still a strong possibility.
If we lose Foster AND Boyd, this staff is the worst recruiting staff at Pitt in a very long time. I don't know if its the soft sell. Others use the soft sell and it works. Whatever the excuse, excuses don't mean squat right now. This class is not competitive in ACC terms and last season's wasn't either.
This one hurts. If this causes us to lose Boyd and Whitehead, any thoughts of Marshalling local kids around the Pitt cause are dead for the next few years.
Pitt MUST win on the football field next season. I think anything less than 9 wins will put us into permenant North Carolina/Virginia irrelevence in the ACC and nationally.
Not really accurate. Saban varies his approach for each individual recruit.
But DJ chose Chryst over Meyer after decommitting.
Point is Chryst's methods will work with some and won't with others.
Your proving my point. After chryst lost dj to psu he learned. So when dj visited Pitt again before his visit to osu chryst sealed it. No doubt in my mind if he visits osu they would have got him. We had 6 uncommitted kids come in for visits last week and have 1 commit. His approach needs tweaked.
Here is a link to football agent Ralph Cindrich accusing Nick Saban of cheating and stating the SEC pays their players more than any other league, coincidentally, they have the most-successful football programs.
