The exodus of players leaving for other programs will be on. Funny how Mauti and his pals bullied underclassmen to stay. And bully them he did only to see the Chosen One bolt on the program and leave these kids to face the sanctions. Believe me, BOB is gone. His stock will never be higher and his agent knows this.Eff Mauti the bully.
Yeah that could be devastating for them. THEN the realities of their penalty will be fully realized. But the difference in PSU versus almost every other program (which also led to the issues at hand) that these people are literally brainwashed into being PSU fans. Also, the legacy's at PSU are different. Look at Pitt. Say Scott Covert (son of Jimbo), what ties does he have to Pitt? He grew up in Chicago, his dad played for Sherrill, the AD was Posvar, the Chancellor, Dean Billick. As opposed to say Mike Hull. Who grew up in PA, his dad and uncles played for JoePa. It all seems the same.
But...if BoB leaves...now realities set in. I would expect if this happens, PSU would look into their own (Mike Munchak) or someone like that.
Also....it is amazing to me how flighty of a program that Pitt has been, the number of players and assistants that have gone on into some high level coaching as compared with Penn State.
If bob leaves, I could see Golden on the first flight into state college. Miami is a mess and I don't see them returning to U dominance in the very near future.
and I thought the Pittsburgh media was sappy....good grief, what a fluff piece.
While I think he is an NFL prospect, I don't see it for at least 2-3 years for 2 reasons.
1. What NFL team is going to take a 6-4 D1 coach with no HC experience in the NFL?
2. That buyout has to come down and it only does when years come off of it. Unless Jerry Jones is forking the bill. No way do the desperate small markets like Buffalo or Cleveland pump that kind of money.
I dunno Steel. He had some serious looks last year by NFL teams. Remember, some of the NFL's best coaches have come with little head coaching experience like McCarthy, Tomlin, Payton, etc...
Was he rumored last year? I didn't know that.
But, O'brien now has an $18M buyout tied to his name which he did not have last year.
And Maryland has a $50 M exit fee so they aren't going anywhere.
Funny, back in January, Pitt fans laughed when PSU hired a no-name coach and now 11 months later, Pitt fans are crossing their fingers and praying that O'brien leaves to take a NFL job. I guess PSU made a good hire.
I have an exit fee. My wife will pay it if I leave.
They are 7-4 and to do that under the circumstances they were under is pretty good. NFL teams would be crazy not to look at the man and what he has done and his track record.
I believe and I could be wrong that the players can still leave, so if he leaves after the season then it could be bad.
Yes, they can still leave after this year without penalty.
I think ou can leave until training camp ends in 2013 and not sit out a year. I have it on good authority that Mauti and pals really pressured some guys who wanted to leave into staying. The guy I am referring to left the program. He said a lot of guys may leave after the season is over. Especially with bullies like Mauti moving on,Hell Mauti will be on crutches so unless he attacks these refugees with a crutch they can get the hell out of Dodge
Well, I see the way PSU players rally around a leader like Mauti so I doubt the players that stayed at PSU feel like they were "bullied" into staying. This isn't 3rd grade recess. If kids did not want to stay at PSU, then they left. No one was bullied into staying. My guess is that the player you know that left probably wasn't getting playing time so he decided to quit the team and claim guys like Mauti were bullying people into staying to make himself look better.
He did not use "bully" he used the word strong armed. Dude if you don't think these guys like Mauti intimidated underclassmen into staying you are as delusional as Franco. The laugh will be on you when BOB exits and the guys with 2/3 years eligibility up and leave too. That is your worst nightmare pal.
It's not a bad thing when your head coach is a hot commodity. It means PSU made a great hire. And, if he should stay, it will be a great recruiting too.
LMFAO. Ok "Franco" recruiting will just go swimmingly for the next 4 years. Dude. It s over Wormer dropped the big one.
Why wouldn't Bill O'Brien staying be a great recruiting tool? Afterall, if all these NFL teams want him to be their head coach, then he must be a pretty good coach.
When guys like Mike Mularky and Chan Gailey keep getting recycled it must be refreshing for an NFL owner to see a guy like O'Brien with an NFL background getting it done on the college level.
I'll be stunned if he's back in Happy Valley in 2013, and I'll be disappointed if Pitt doesn't land a few PSU transfers.
Ya then maybe you guys won't lose to YSU and UConn. You Pitt fans are pathetic! You're just mad that PSU hired a great coach and you got stuck with Paul Chryst, who looks completely lost on the sideline and has never heard of a halftime adjustment. Pitt will probably play in the same number of bowl games PSU will over the next 4 years. Good luck getting left in the ACC aka the Big Least Part II after the other conferences are done raiding it for the few decent teams! Can't wait to beat the crap outta Pitt in a few years in Heinz field when it'll be full of PSU fans!
Dominate The State
Yep .. and life will go on. Enjoy being filled with hate. Let me know how that works out. You're a terrific human being.
Ok Franco now go back to playing house with your cardbord cutout of Poopy Pants. Or better yet correspond with your buddy in PC (Punk City) at SCI in Greene Co.. You know the guy." Rhythmic Slapping Motion Sandusky." You must be sooo proud.
I wish Pitt had a leader like mauti on the team this year.
P I T T is it!
Or Ohio and Virginia.
Serious question, why do you care so much about Pitt football?
Pitt sucks. Most of us get it. The problem lies in the fact that you don't realize PSU sucks too...
Congrats on adding Rutgers.
