This makes Pitt a lock for the tourney at this point, and the team is getting better overall, especially Adams. Looking at the rest of the schedule, 11 or 12 wins seems very doable in the Big East, as well as possibly a top 6 seed in the NCAA tourney.
I like this team but we have 4 tough weeks ahead.
Yes, right now they are a lock for the tourney....likely today would go in as a 7 seed, and not really anywhere near the bubble.
Unless they finish below .500 in conference they are a lock. There are a lot of awful college bball teams.
I meant if the season ended right now. Even if they lose to Cincy, Marq, and ND, and take care of business against the teams that we should, Pitt would have 11 wins, and be a lock. Pick up just one win in those other 3 games, and take care of business, Pitt is 12-6 in the Big East, possibly a top 4 seed in the BET, and 24-7 heading into the BET. Win a game there, and get to 25-8 you are looking at worst at a 6 seed.
Right now, they would really have to tank to not make the tourney.
I got ya my man. But we need to stay focused. This is the month to step up or step down. Nothing is set as of this point.
BTW- I hope this team takes a step up. We can do some serious damage in the tourney if these team grasp what JD is trying to do with the 10 player rotation. We need to improve in FEB. LGP.
Feb. 4, 2013 Seton Hall Win
Feb. 9, 2013 at Cincinnati Toss up
Feb. 16, 2013 at Marquette L
Feb. 18, 2013 Notre Dame Win
Feb. 24, 2013 at St. John's Toss up
Feb. 27, 2013 South Florida Win
Mar. 3, 2013 Villanova Win
Mar. 9, 2013 at DePaul Win
With the home wins and a win against Depaul they end up with at least 23 wins and 11 wins in the BE. That gets them in. Even if they trip up against ND, they'll stil lhave 22 wins and a win 10 in the BE Unless they totally collapse, they get in the dance
A "Real PITT MAN"............get off my porch!

"I think #Pitt will be difficult to beat the rest of the way. They're the best team we've played -- it's not even close." - Boeheim
What I like is I think this team has yet to reach their peak. Adams still can improve a lot and I think Patterson and Zigs especially can improve as they continue to grow in confidence. Add in guys like Zanna, Moore, Cam and DJ who all have room to improve and this team can get a lot better.
I agree 80 - and quite frankly this is not the case in past years. We tended to peak in Jan/Feb rather than Feb/March.
Adams seems to be getting more and more comfortable and Zigs is making some nice drives opening up the defense.
Really, really big win. And I agree with the op that this was the signature win we needed. Like how this team is evolving.
This could actually be the year Pitt fans have been waiting for where the team peaks in March and not January.
And perhaps finally a year where the team exceeds expectations. Maybe even a year where the team does BETTER than expected in the tournament.
I agree- but we need to improve to the next level before the tourney to make a run.
Ski- I think I heard that SU only had 7 scholy players available today. I know 2 were out before the game. Did SU have guys go to the next level or did they have guys leave like Pitt did?

a week ago i made a thread about what pitt needed to do the rest of the season. i said they needed to split louisville and syracuse... check. i also said that if they win 3 of these next 4 games and only lose 1 of the last 4 (which they should at least win 3 if not all 4) that they would be about a 5 seed. if they do that, they would finish 12-6 in conference with some very good wins and really no bad losses unless you consider rutgers a bad team. then they have a chance to get to a 4 seed by the way they play in the big east tournament. obviously im getting way ahead of myself but its fun to think about these things. pitt needs to come out and handle seton hall like they should and not overlook them.
This was not a big win. Of course, if we lost, it would be a big loss. We only lose big games, we never win big games.
We definitely turned it over a bit too much, but I loved the aggressiveness on offense and in breaking the press at the end. We killed them on the boards - good to see Zanna playing physical again - and were so much more unselfish than they were. No one shot more than 7 times. Terrific win.
The team is inconsistent, but you can't deny it's potential. With this much athleticism, the ceiling is indeed high.
This year will be a really good year if we win a few games in the BET, and one or two in the dance
It should be a lot of fun watching how this team grows down the stretch. Lots of hoops left but it really makes you get excited about how this team is set up for a huge run next year with most guys returning and more talent on the way Adams in particular will be a beast next year and JROB will be a much better player
Wins are never recorded nor exist if they occured before March.
achilles heals are turnovers and free throws. if we can clean up one of them (to's), i like our chances in march. FT's probably are what they are. but the to's can be fixed, or at least reduced. just some really bad ones in every game this year. way more than any jamie team i can remember.
