  • Why not take it a step further and put armed guards in every public place in the country...............Lets turn the country into a police state.

Yes lets fund the sale of more guns, which really this recommendation is all about (i.e., protecting gun industry sales).

  • I see where ur coming from on this and respect ur point of view but when they banned AR sales before, shootings didn't go down. His point is let's not make the kids helpless when this happen. It's not wanting a police state its security. The problem is the mental guy not the guns. He applied for a gun but the system worked and he was denied. He got the guns from his mom after he shot her. A ban isn't going to fix that. Ppl who want to kill will find a gun somewhere so why not have someone with a gun to stop someone who has a gun. How many ppl might have been saved if the principle had a gun to kill the guy before he made it into the room or a security guy there to stop him from going into the room?

  • Why does one need an assault rifle anyway?

Secondly, Lets say the Principle has a gun. How do we know she'll win in a gun fight and protect the kids. Moreover, how do we know her having a gun wont actually make things worse? Police go through hours of training and make mistakes.

Finally he wasnt suggesting we put guns in the hands of principles but rather hire security guards for schools to protect kids. How many should each school have? Whats it going to cost? Why not have armed guards at all public places like swimming pools where there are lots of kids, movie theaters, amusement parks, zoos, etc etc etc. Im sorry Im not sure I want to live in a place where there are armed guards on every street corner in every public venue.

  • Well I'm sure whoever would have a gun would have to b certified. U can't compare swimming places and parks to school. Schools are the one place parents drop off their kids and not there to protect them. Would u drop off ur kid somewhere knowing schools have became targets for crazies with no security? Right now kids are sitting ducks if some nut wants to go off that's the part that has to change. We all want a safer place for kids but restricting guns isn't the answer. Ppl use AR guns for target practice and sport. U can shoot a pistol and reload it at the same speed as the AR and mostly the pistols do more damage. I don't own an AR and don't get the appeal but it's no more dangerous than my .22 that holds 17 rounds in it.

  • Id drop my kids off at school any time. As incredibly tragic and sad as what happened in Newton, nothing has changed the odds of kids coming home safely from school each day. Are you afraid to fly? Are you afraid to drive a car? But its not an epdimic level to create a police state. Zoos, swimming pools and other places have just as many kids. colleges have far more young peope who are sitting ducks. Sporting evens have many innocent people who are vulnerable to attacks.

  • I guess we will just agree to disagree. Getting on an airplane and driving a car is no where close to school where KIDS are. There again my point being at a zoo, or at a park, or at an amusement park the parents are there to protect THEIR child. No one wants a "police state" but having a cop at a school isn't someone telling everyone to b in their house at a certain time or telling ppl where they can go its just adding SECURITY for the school. Cops are public servants to the ppl they serve who pay the taxes to provide their pay. What greater service could they do but protect our kids? When u go into ball games u have to go through security to prevent these things from happening. I can't remember a mass shooting at a sporting event it's been at schools where crazy ppl look at as a soft target. Look up pearl Ms shooting in the 90s. The principle at pearl school heard a shot so he went to his truck got his gun and found the guy and subdued him. Later the guy confessed he would have kept shooting kids unless he would have been stopped. Now the cops did show up but that was after the principle had subdued him. How many lives had he saved who knows but those are stories the media doesn't tell BC of agendas they have for gun control. Just saying banning certain guns would not have stopped this but it's a knee jerk reaction to takes guns. Facts back up where there isn't guns to protect The ppl crime goes up there. Nice having a friendly debate tho.
