theyre taking a class of 25 or more. it appears as though theyre going to take as many of their guys as possible and make the numbers work. in addition to those guys, i think DT kenton gibbs is big time. i also think there is a juco defensive end who is visiting pitt who would be a good get. pitt has a good to-great shot at all of these so it is possible most or all of them end up here.
It seems they are going to at least 29, with four early enrollees counting back to last year - Chapman, Soto, Orndoff, and (forget the fourth).
So, we may be looking at as many as 10 more kids. If they are concerned about a kid or two not qualifying, who knows, maybe they'll sign 30 or 31.
Regardless of who we finish with, it seems that we will be finishing the class strong. I really like the potential of our line haul on both sides of the ball.
Let's get another receiver to "Foster the People" like AB!
WHo's the juco? Anybody? This is crucial to my dome .. it's friday night and i need to know NOW! ok .. time for another shot of El Jim(ador).
Lets say 10 left. In order my wish list is
If we miss
Commits from other schools with coaching changes
4.Matthew Dayes(NC State)

You think Hytchyechtyhtceyhtcytehytehc is better than McClain? We're pretty loaded at DB?
And who is this JUCO DL? HA! Anyone? Is he just a mythical creature of great allure???
And i agree about the wish list .. however, is there anyone committed to Tennessee we might like?
I think Hytchye has plenty of upside
Yes Nigel Harris
The guy from Alaska who's initials are LT. Not gonna try to spell that Samoan sounding name
I'd love to get Paul Harris from Tennessee, but I think USC was his other finalist. They're likely too full for him but there would be big competition there
Does anyone know where one could find an updated scholarship list? From what I've heard, Pitt graduates 15 scholarship players. You have to imagine they would have about 8-10 transfers/dismissals, some already confirmed. I believe they used 84 scholarships this season meaning if they lose 25 players, they would have room for 26 total. It's just tough to keep straight though without seeing a definitive list of players.
It sounds like someone sneezed whenever I hear this name mentioned.
hytchye is big time. hes on the skinny side but is a speed demon and is supposed to be a lockdown cover corner. the staff views jucos as secondary options. they want to get high school kids and develop them their way which i like. if you look at it, it is entirely possible that pitt finishes out with foster, boyd, gibbs, jones-smith, officer, hytchye, and moody. i dont really believe in "must gets" but the closest things to those are foster boyd and gibbs so as far as im concerned if they get those 3, anything else is cake
I looked at this before as have others, and I believe the consensus was somewhere around 66/67 for next year. That assumes the walkons who were granted ships keep them and includes the transfers.
So, that leaves 18-19 ships for next year. It will be interesting to see how / where they get another 8-10 to open up.
Upon further review...yes.
Remember that four are enrolling early, which gives a bit more wiggle room.
Enrolling early doesn't change the 85 total as the limiting factor.
While I am optimistic about the Pitt careers of our four early enrollees, I still do not see them as having an impact as true freshmen.
Savage and Voytik should be way ahead of Chapman, who is a bit of a raw talent to begin with. I don't see Jarrett getting a lot of PT even if Donald would go pro. Despite Holtz relative success as a true freshman TE, I'd still like to see Orndoff redshirt. If the light doesn't come on for Clemmings and Soto comes in like gangbusters, maybe he contributes.
I think where the real advantage of the early enrollees comes in is that they would possibly be ready to play significant roles as redshirt freshmen. Chapman could be starting or the backup by then. Orndoff could be behind only Holtz and play a lot in two TE sets. Jarrett could be in the two - deep rotation at DT. Soto could possibly challenge for a starting job in 2014.
You will see guys told to move on with their lifes work...New broom sweeps clean
How about the MLB from Penn State? He visited before the season. Any chance he transfers or any other PSU players?
Not likely. They had to transfer before the year to be able to do so without sitting out I believe. Now it would be a normal transfer
I could see Chapman potentially playing/starting. Voytik is ahead, but I will only be a few months with backup reps and no game experience. Savage has game experience but hasn't played in a few years. If its close I think one of the freshmen start over Savage because they'd have 4 years left to develop instead of 1 and done. Remember Chapman's running ability adds a whole different dimension to the offense- which would be very important if the staff missed on Foster(IF) since Shanahan is going, and even if they land Foster it adds something.
Jarrett is a big time player I think . I really expect him to come in and challenge for a spot on the two deep right away. He may be a freshman, but to me a prep school kid is more like a redshirt freshman than a true freshman in that they had that extra year to develop. Think about all the time he has spent in the weight room and practicing over the past few months that has him physically ahead of true freshmen.
Orndoff really depends on DiCicco IMO. If we don't get him, Orndoff could play a role next year as a reserve in the tight end rotation just because of depth. If we are able to get him, he and Holtz should do fine and allow Orndoff to redshirt.
Soto is a kid I expect to redshirt. He's local to me and I like his potential but it's a big change in competition for him as he doesn't play against many D1 kids(though neither did Nyeem Wartman last year, the Penn St LB that almost visited here before Fraud left). He would really need to stand out with the depth there.
No, but we were at 81 last year.
I thought they had 1 whole year to transfer without sitting out?
You are right Lloyd. I don't know what is so hard to understand about the psu transfer rules.
Agree with Llyod and Prez. These rules continue to stump people and i don't get it. The same question over and over and over.
As for the scholarship limit .. i guess from what i understand we're going to bring in all that we want and push out the dead weight. Doesn't bother me at all. Let's get this program back on track with a consistent scheme and talent to match.
And what i really want to know is .. what are the confidence levels for these targets? Who are the most likely to commit .. and who are 50/50 .. and who are the least likely .. ?? anyone?
no they have until the start of next season

well hytchye was one that chris dokish said he thught he could commit this weekend. travon chapman on twitter actually said jojo kemp would commit soon. i dont know if thats just him working on kemp but it sounds like theyre all having a great time. plus the parties tonight after what id assume a hard core intro to college parties last night might just do the trick.
