A good question(s) to ask House, and maybe Steve Flinn can try and ask it if/when he's covering spring practice or gets the chance.
Who does he see as his defensive mentor? Are there any coaches he would like to emulate or particular ones that he studies?
Wisky used the 3-3-5 alignment in the past. I wonder if Chryst has influenced him at all?
That is basically just a nickel defense. In all seriousness, I love TCU's scheme and I have no idea why more people haven't emulated it when facing spreads? Patterson does a terrific job - especially on that side of the football - and I would definitely pick his brain if I were a defensive coach.
As for the front, that's slightly overrated. You can get pressure out of a 4-3 just as well as you can a 3-4 and vice versa. What Pitt needs to do, IMHO is be a lot less predictable on D and make the QB hold the ball for a beat longer than he'd like and/or throw it a beat faster than he had anticipated. Also, they need to tackle better than they have for the past few seasons. If Pitt can do all of those things they'll be successful on D no matter how many men they line up along their interior.
