I hear lots of people say they are impressed with Matt House. So aside from recruiting where there are reports that the guy is pretty good, what about his coaching impresses you.
I was looking at the teams BE stats last year and the pass defense in conference (the most relevent comparision) was about the same or slightly better.
It seems to me that a DB coach is pretty hard to evaluate given that there are a number of other factors that influence the observed results (ie the D coordinator, the front seven push, and the talent he inherited). Im not saying hes not an up and coming coach but Im just not sure what factual information folks have to draw that conclusion.
A "Real PITT MAN"............get off my porch!
A month and a half ago, promoting House wasn't even an option. It was laughable and basically a joke between Pitt fans. "Watch, we'll cheap out and promote House of Haering..."
Is there a single person anywhere that advocated House for DC in December or early January? Please, find me that person.
Today it's a reality, and now he has credentials.... credentials he didn't have 6-8 weeks ago.
I'm not being anti-Pitt, anti-House, or anti-PC. I'm telling the truth. It's embarrassing and pathetic that Pitt operates this way, especially after getting into the ACC.
I wish House the best. It's not his fault that Pitt is inept.
Misery loves company, as they say.
Gibby, I have to wonder if the admin knows that they have about 30,000 loyal fans who much like the PIrates fan base, will lap up every SHITE sadwich that is served and act like it was a new york strip steak. So they throw anything out there knowing that most of the fans are apathetic and the other ones are like uPS fans who drink the koolaide.
As you pointed out, while house was certainly noted for his recruiting, there was no one on here or any other Pitt board clamoring about the kids performance as a DB coach, let alone for him to be the DB job.
That said, Im interested in hearing from the folks who think the kid is a rising star. What has he done other that recruit that makes him a great defensive mind? Again if that were the case you would have thought that PC would have done this right after Hux left. He didnt,,,,

I was thinking this myself today. Why does everyone say House is a great coach and a rising star? Never heard this once all season. Now, the ball washer SP apologists love it and think he'll be so good he'll be gone in a year or two because he will be so successful. Not saying he won't but where did all this come from? Why wasn't it here all season? I believe there is about 25% of our fan base that thinks any move made by the admin or coaching staff is just spectacular. Come on guys, this isn't a cult it's a fan base. It's ok to question things. It doesn't mean you hate Pitt. This is a very underwhelming hire. Pitt missed the boat.....again. We just aren't in a position to cross our fingers and hope a guy works out. Where this team is positioned they really needed to hire a proven coach with a successful history.
Not sure where people are getting the House hype either. You'd think they would've pushed for him when Hux made it known he was leaving.
I'm pretty sure Pitts, K'Wuan, Holley and Hendricks were pretty good before House got here.
I can't say this enough.......Paul Chryst while being interviewed on the fan said he would look outside the staff for the DC....what changed?
Austin wanted paid like a decent DC.
You guys just can't see that Pitt walks to the beat of a different drum. They are on the cutting edge of innovation when it comes to staffing
Hiring guys that have experience and a track record is a waste of money
Who said they didn't look?
Yeah, but Haymaker gave a great youtube speech.... don't you remember.
On a serious note that is exhibit A of how some in this fan base buy anything they are fed. I saw that video and thought to myself this dude is a moron. I honestly couldn't see what was so I inspiring about that locker room speech.
Maybe if smiley could put a locker room speech like that for house in you tube we could be more certain he has what it takes.
But many posters in this site and others have asserted that they have info that money was not any issue. So if Austin wanted $600K or so it wasn't a stumbling block. PC evaluated all of the candidates and determined he had the best right under his nose. Are you saying you don't believe that? Yeah, me neither. Not ripping House for aspiring to greater things, but money was absolutely an issue with this hire or PC is the biggest dope and poorest evaluator of coaching talent in CFB. And none of us believes that.
