Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt wasn't---at least not that I've seen. Could be wrong.

I thought pantherman alluded to that, did I mis-read?
How do you breathe up there up in those clouds?
depoits?? : to dispose or set firmly : fix
: to assume or affirm the existence of : postulate
: to propose as an explanation : suggest
You're a pompous ass. It's no wonder you defend poor management. You're way too busy impressing yourself.
YES. It's been a while since you came after me for using correct diction---it was Type I versus Type II error, right? Anyway, "posit" got a lot of meaning out of five letters, two syllables. I'll take it.
I think he did. I'm interested to see as well.
So what your saying is that your supposition that an internet rumor is more subtanative than others observation that there is cause for concern as it usually doesnt take this long to hire a DC. Makes perfect sense to me.
A "Real PITT MAN"............get off my porch!
I guess your right. If someone concludes that its a duck because it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck while another says well did you ever consider that its an incredibly small human being who is dressed up as a duck and has mastered the duck walk and quack sound, then I guess the person who drew the earlier conclusion didnt in fact consider all possible options. Great point
If only that's what was going on. Instead, it's "I AM USING HISTORY TO DEDUCE THAT THERE ARE ONE OR TWO ALTERNATIVES." See Gibby's post above.
And all I'm saying is: there are more alternatives. It may well be that the truth is one of the two (or both) of the things that Gibby's listed. But that doesn't mean he was right with his thought process. You can get the "right" answer the wrong way.
I can't help it Nick LOL!
Well actually yes Nick, I do take an Internet rumor, from internet sources I am somewhat familiar with who say they know "people" as more reliable, compared to a poster I don't know much posting his very narrow impatient opinion....
In fact, having been in the position of holding up a key hire for a couple months because a supior candidate would be coming available then, i can totally understand the reasoning in waiting until the Superbowl is over to complete Chryst's hiring process. Which can easily take another week or two if you are running a professional hiring process.
I love that Chryst is swinging for the fences with this hire! Austin is pretty much the best case scenario candidate, and I would have waited for him too, even if you are not sure you can get him.
Hope you did not take that personally.
And the ducks monologue made me spit my drink up through my nose laughing Nick!
Nothing personal at all. You have to admit though I. Today's coaching world. Especially football. Contracts and commitments mean nothing. So it would be the exception to the rule that Austin would not interview for the job for two months. I'd also point out that the position came open prior to the playoffs starting. So if Austin was the guy they had their eye on they could and and should have made contact to make sure he was a guy that was worth waiting for. And by that I mean that he in fact was interested and on fact was singable. I've done plenty of hiring and one of the first things you do before you waste everyone's time is gauge the persons level of interest and make sure they fit the budget. Otherwise you're wasting very ones time.
If they had done that I doubt we'd be two weeks past the SB and still not have Austin. Under contract.
If you're right and it is Austin. Ill eat crow. If I'm right and it isn't Austin I think we can conclude that this process was far from professional. We'll see
Of course they could've and should've gauged Austin's interest months ago Nick. You don't even need to talk with him directly, you can go through his agent. You find out what he makes and if he is interested, what it might take to get him. Then you see if you can afford it. This could've been done with any number of candidates. You guys ever get calls from head hunters? Apparently not.
Can someone please email Bob L's DC list of candidates to Coach Chryst? Bob did all the leg work here already.
Let's just hire Wannstadt as a DC and get it over with!!! For as bad as a head coach he might be he has always been good as a coordinator!!! I'm getting impatient.
did you watch the buffalo bills defense last year? a monkey could have done better.
Good point Blank, I agree. Here's another one for you. You can't make race horses out of jackasses. Buffalo's defensive players sucked every bit as bad as wanny.
Word on the street is that Smiley is the middle of mucking up this hire. Apparently there are differences of opinion over philosophy and the amount of money.
IF this is true, If Im PC, I walk into Nordies Office and tell him to choose between Smiley and me. I'd give him a week to decide and if smiley stays I hand in my resignation. PC cant afford to let some now nothing paper pusher make key decisions on his staff. There has been a pattern of interference with coaching decisions from this jack wagon from the time he got here (see Buddy Morris firing, Meddling with Walts and DW's staff, and even Fraud made reference to administrative problems)
Ever wonder why Pitt has problems hiring coaches? Its the smiley clown in the AD's office. Its time for him to go
PC has some chips to play because hes built up some good will and more importantly Pitt cant afford to lose him at this point in time. Again I tell SP to go pound salt. As STeel pointed out, SMiley doesnt care about the program, its all been about his incredible ego.
you mean the guy they gave a $100M contract at the recommendation of dave? is he one of them?
did you know that that defense set records for ineptness?
i love dave. but he did a terrible job.
The Buffalo front office make the Pirates look like brain surgeons.
Which street? Been away from computer all day.
I have to say that given that this is the most thorough and extensive professional search for a DC in the history of college football. I can't wait to see two they hire. I'm sure we will all be blown away
So, no street.
Dave is that man, he's also the same man that steve gave an extension to right before pushing him out the door. Yes he did do very poorly at Buffalo.

i blame nordy for keeping stevie p around. its been a horrible nightmare and has had zero upside.
it will taint his legacy at pitt unfortunately - particularly amongst pitt sports fans.
stevie p has been nothing but a $3MM ($600k/yr for 5 yrs) money drain on the program compounded by mindless contract extensions (e.g. wanny and berndato) and hiring decisions (e.g. baby mama slapper and fraud graham).
