Just wondering if anyone else feels they should hire a "coach in waiting" type guy.
I would think Rudolph is the de facto coach in waiting.
He's a western PA guy .. and Wiscy grad. What's up with all these western pa players going to a colder uglier place to play football?
I'm not concerned about a coach-in-waiting. As long as Alvarez makes a good hire, I expect PC to be at Pitt for a long time.
The guy from Vanderbilt? Brent Pry is his name IIRC.
A good hire .. as in .. not PC? and as in .. a Wiscy guy. That's what i'm hoping for.
And it couldn't hurt to have TWO coaches in waiting.
I would really like to see Austin brought in if it is truly possible. My reasoning is he apparently was outstanding in his interviews for the HC position. I think anytime you can add a guy to your staff like that, you do it. He is fairly young and ideally will get better and better as his career moves along.
I think any of those 3 guys is a homerun. All can recruit their ass off and coach a tough D.
I don't think we have the financials to go take a coach from ANY SEC school.
I concur Mo-town.
If Pitt can get teryl Austin as our dc I will really believe we are turning a corner.
Agree, Tomsula from San Fran would be my second choice.
I forgot about Tomsula, but that would definitely be an interesting prospect as well. That D in San Fran is awfully good, and they got that way pretty quickly.
Pretty sure I read Tomshla's contract expires after this hear also......
Tomsula is the man they should go after.
Rudolph is too busy to interview this time of year. No way he's leaving his current boss until after Xmas.
Tomsula would be my #1 choice if possible. Austin, Sunseri, Orlando .. all about equal after that.
I wonder how long we'll have to wait. Given that Partridge likely won't know about Arkansas options for a while, it may be lengthy. Hopefully House isn't going with Huxtable, as he's been one of our more important foot soldiers lately.
and if that fails, Ditka, Marty or even Mark May. Why not Wanny?
i dont see tomsula, austin, or sunseri. i think any one of them would be great hires but for tomsula it would be a lateral move if not a downgrade. Austin apparently does not want to be a college coach unless its as a head coach and i just dont think chryst persues sunseri. i think charlie partridge would be a very good option. good coach, great recruiter, and is familiar with the area. im not too familiar with todd orlando. I know he ran a 3-4 at fiu. He coached a very aggressive defense and he has florida ties. I think that would be a good hire but i tend to thin k chryst can find a better one. Also, if this has been in the works for a while now i would suspect a new dc relatively soon.
DISCLAIMER: I am in no way predicting that pitt will pursue him nor do i think they will hire him (im not even sure theyd have a chance).
trooper taylor... there might not be a better recruiter in college football although auburns defense has been really, REALLY bad
Wasn't he auburn's wr coach?
Trooper Taylor is an offensive coach and probably a guy that Pitt wouldn't touch if he wanted to work for free. Best recruiter in the game though, also probably the dirtiest.
oohhh youre right i apologize lol. i thought he was an lb coach
Teryl Austin is an absolute homerun. A plus
Tomsula is a gutsy hire b plus
Partridge is a decent good hire b
Orlando is an average hire c
Pitt will really show me something if the top
2 guys are hired.
Do you really think Pitt will pony up for Austin or Tomsula?
It's gonna be Orlando or Partridge without them even looking at the 2 with NFL jobs. You can get an unemployed coach much cheaper.
I agree with you. That's why I believe Pitt will make a very strong statement if they choose austin or tomasula.
