Not a Robert Foster related thread, but since there are many of you are here I have two questions:
1) How good is Ole Miss?
2) Any tips on Birmingham?
They can be really dangerous or really pedestrian. Freeze is a really good coach too. While theyre undersized by sec standards, they play hard. You need to win the first half or you're in trouble.
Sounds like Pitt.
Go to legion field, then leave... Quickly. Stay out of the West Side. Stay in Hoover/Vestavia. Be safe
I've never been there, but from what I hear, Bryant's synopsis is absolutely correct
Protect the edges and you should be OK! They are fast! But not much meat to go up the middle. Seems when they are on they look like world beaters. But that starts with them stealing the edge and getting you out of place then exploiting it. Power game will ruin them if you stay with it.
Exactly what this guy said. Go to the game and leave. Definitely stay in the Hoover area.
Ole Miss is a really good football team. They have a good balance in passing/rushing. They also lost 6 games this year, but 5 of those are Top 15 teams. Heck their other loss to Vandy doesn't look that bad now either. They really only had one ugly loss and that was to Georgia. They played Bama really well, but just didnt have the athletes we had. They are fairly turnover prone, so look for that to play a factor. Freeze to me is the real deal. Ole Piss will be a stepping stone for him.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It's just that yours is stupid.
Pitt could blow them out .. or be blown out. That's life as an inconsistent performer. The players have dictated to the coaches all year. If they decide they want to play hard, then Ole Miss can forget about it.
I give us a 70% chance of looking like crap. I say that because we looked like crap against USF. That was the worst team we've played since G-W and the score was way too low. We farted around. Can't do that in the bowl game.

Legion Field is basically falling apart..and it's not exactly in the best area. I'd also suggest getting in and out and quick as you can.
Haha, this is not our first rodeo with Birmingham. It is, in fact, a deadly hole.
Which is why most of us bail after the game and go to Nashville.
Hail to Pitt.
Thanks guys, sounds like a great trip.
I've been there several times for work, but it's usually airport... west towards Inverness (which seems nice) and back to the airport. Couldn't make either of the last two games there.
Like others have mentioned, Legion Field isn't the best area in town. Don't linger.
As far as food goes....downtown has some great restaurants -- Veranda, Highlands Bar and Grill, 26, Ocean. If you want BBQ check out Dreamland or Jim-N-Nicks. For the best soul food on the planet, try Niki's West.
If they tempo you and spread you out you are in trouble. Especially in short yardage 3rd downs. Their D is improving and showing alot of promise. Their main problem is depth and costly TOs. Their QB sometimes just throws the ball up inexplicably. They can stop the run but are very bad on the DB end of things.
Legion field isn't in the best neighborhood but it isn't vietnam. Crime happens mostly to locals. Youre more likely to get robbed (as a stranger) in "better" neighborhoods like hoover.
If you come, enjoy the south. Everyone will talk to you. Sample a few southern spots....and good luck in the game.
Beware of the South. Southern hospitality is a myth. I spent 2 years in MS and it was the most unfriendly place I have ever lived. This is coming from a guy who has lived in Chicago, and St. Louis to name a few. All I ever hear about is how unfriendly people in Chicago and St. Louis are, and I would take them in a heartbeat over the miserable people I encountered living down south.
That being said, there are exceptions and some of the people in MS were very nice. For a quick trip most will view the southerners as friendly because the fake smiles they give you last just long enough to serve you well on a quick trip.
To sum it up easily and bluntly, the people up north are real. The people down south are real fake.

As far as things to do in Birmingham, there isn't much as far as sightseeing or must do things. We have a civil rights museum and a decent art museum for the size of the city.
One thing we do have is great food. A hidden, lesser known gem is Little Savannah. http://littlesavannah.com/
This place has great southern inspired food. The menu changes often based on the availability and quality of locally grown produce, meats and dairy products. They also have their own artisan cocktails that change often too. A great atmosphere with plates from $23-30.
We also have a couple of world renowned chefs here.
Frank Stitt has several restaurants in the area. http://highlandsbarandgrill.com/
Chris Hastings restuarant is fabulous also. http://www.hotandhotfishclub.com/
For nightlife, I am getting older and don't go out like I used to but I believe the Lakeview District is still the "it" spot for nightlife.
Innisfree is one of the better pubs in that area. http://innisfreeirishpubs.com/home/
Hope this and the links help.
There's a lot of blood, sweat, and guts between dreams and success.
To Alabama fans: Bryant-- I hope you realize you caught a coelacanth, a fish thought to be extinct for 35 million years. Here's hoping you put him in the freezer and didn't eat him. He's worth 20 million$ to a museum
Bolden 1983: Good to see you lost that serial killer from LSU who was stalking you and the wife.
Snowman: Is that a man or a woman in the far left picture?
Her back has got to hurt. Call me if she needs a neurologist.
Ole Miss really played us tough...QB can be careless with the ball and they get after it on defense.
Golden Rule barbecue is a nice little place for lunch in Hoover if you are looking for some good southern barbecue.
Give me jim n nicks and the cheese biscuits
That guy always creeped me out.
Its cause you're a carpetbagger. Stay around long enough and then you're in the family.
