Cananyone explain the sissy ass game of hoops to me? Why........

  • ....did the ref call a jump ball, then Mich got an in bounds and then after Bieliein called a TO, Mich got to shoot free throws? I hate this stupid game and have no idea why the world enjoys it! It is just annoying. I only watch Pitt to support Pitt and have zero interest until tourney and that is only for my bracket.

I really don't get it, but I guess that is why football makes the bulk of the revenue and who UK, IN, UNC, etc are not really heralded as great athletic schools. Winning a hoops NC carries about 1/3 the weight of winning a REAL championship in football.

  • I also don't get it's popularity. How people could go nuts for a sport that is anti physical contact, I'll never understand. If they allowed some contact and treated the players like men, I bet the support would grow big time.

  • It's not like basketball players are loaded with pads from head to toe like football and hockey players. Also, if you allow more contact, it would severely diminish the scoring which makes the game less attractive.

  • I personally love college hoops and can watch any hoops game.

  • My guess is like any sport, you appreciate it more if you've played it. It's also not anti-contact. There are limits to the contact, just like you can't block in the back in football. If you want to watch the contact, watch the big men on the block jostling for position for a while. If its two good big men, they're constantly pushing and shoving. It can get very physical inside. When you set a pick or take a charge, there are no pads.

  • Cause that jump ball was in favor of Michigan. If another jump ball would of occurred the possession arrow would favor Pitt. On the inbounds there was a foul before the player inbounded the ball. Is that what your talking about?

That I get but why when Mich was inbounding, did they never throw it in bounds and then went to free throw line? Was there an off the ball foul before they ever inbounded?

All please excuse my rant last night. We had people over and I was a little buzzed, plus everyone was talking and I couldn't hear the TV. So I could not understand what transpired. We lead the whole game almost and one poor few minutes flipped the game and we couldn't recover, as I saw it. Plus I hate MeeCheatAgain and wanted that PITT win.

I played hoops until 6th grade but when I had to make a choice in 7th, I went with wrestling. I just hate how they let the game be so physical in one aspect and then call the faintest of brushes at another moment.

On another note, Steve Adams looks lost out there. How can such a heralded recruit who a potential top 10 NBA pick be so bad?

  • Pitt fouled Michigan on the inbounds play, before the ball was put into play. That's why they were shooting FTs.

Adams has never face this type of competition growing up in New Zealand. It takes most 7-footers time to get acclimated to college basketball. Adams also needs a year in the weight room. He should improve as the season progresses, but would be wise to play two seasons at Pitt. The NBA drafts on potential, but teams will lose patience quickly. Mark Blount learned that and had to work his way back in the D-League.

  • Yup Michigan was in the bonus when that happened.

  • The best athletes in the world play basketball. Lebron James is probably the greatest physical talent in history. I appreciate the athleticism. And football is catching up in sissiness. They'll be neck and neck soon.

I agree about the rules and refs. Sports get further and further from being "fair" as they try to perfect officiating more and more. It's silly. Just let them play and live with the cheap shots.

  • I could watch the NBA all day long. Good college games and Pitt too. I haven't watched a non-Pitt football game start to finish yet this year. I find college fooball virtually unwatchable.

    ski11585

  • Yep. College football is boring as hell. I haven't watched an SEC hyped matchup in years and years. I never even approached a TV while last year's national title game was on. These are absolute truths. I don't watch the games unless Pitt is on or something i find to be interesting. Very few games make me desire to spend hours of my free time in front of a TV.

I'm the same way...unless I have a team to root for, I find it hard to watch. Didn't watch a single play of last year's title game.

  • Sure. It is a game where everyone needs athleticism. Not hiding rocks who can't walk and talk and chew gum at certain positions like football.

The worst athlete on the field saturday will be playing QB for Pitt. We don't even hide our rocks.

I do not. I did that one time last weekend when I was in New Orleans when you texted me that we had an OT comeback to beat Oakland. I told you basically that Nordy & SP screwed the pooch by giving hoops the golden goose and football the shaft.

Honestly, it looks like we aren't going to be that great again in hoops. 2 years out of the tourney & you get forgotten. Nordy fail, again.

  • What? We're not going to the NCAA tourney now?

There is no way I can I agree with that generalized statement.

    Here's why..

99% of college basketball players in the NBA wouldn't be able to fill out a roster in the NFL nor the MLB. Sure many of them could probably play some TE or WR, but where are the QB's, RB's, OL, DL, LB's?

The NFL has players who could transition to the NBA much easier than the NBA guys would to the NFL.

The greatest athletes in pro sports who can transition the easiest to the NBA are NFL DL/LB's. They combine the most size, speed, quickness, agility, strength, etc.

I personally think the only sport that combines virtually every form of athleticism is found in mixed martial arts.

  • I wonder if either of us are right or wrong. And if so .. then i wonder what the truth is.

Is there a better athlete in football than Lebron James? Does anyone have the answer?

I think Lebron probably is the best athlete in the major sports - NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL...

I think the most impressive thing about high level bball players - college and pros, is the ability for really tall guys to dribble and shoot.

When you see HS bball big men range around 6'3-6'6 struggle to run the court and you see Lebron or Shaq for that matter run w/ such fluidity it is incredible.

    steelcurtain55

  • That's the freakish part about it. They are taller than everybody on the planet and still move like they're short .. and handle the ball. You described it very well.

Perhaps football and basketball do not subtract from one another. Again .. i don't have the answer. It just seems like bigger, stronger, faster is better.

  • I think that is what seprated Bo and Deion from everyone. They both could run like the wind and while Bo was a horse, Deion wasn't all that small at 6'1 200lbs but they both could hit and field at an all star level.

I'll never forget when I was a kid watching the 1989 All Star game and on the 1st pitch, Bo jacks it 400+ feet over center field on Rick Reuschel.

Speaking of baseball, I would have loved to have seen Rickey Henderson play football. Back when baseball was the king - 50's/60's there is no doubt in my mind that Mantle and Mays were the best athletes sports.

You are either completely biased or a moron if you think this team won't makw the tourney. A loss to the #4 team tells you we aren't a tourney team?

Will you come back to eat your words in March?
