Basketball Chat: Pitt/Michigan Game Thread

  • Big game tonight at MSG, so we may as well do another basketball game thread. I'll star the thread and everyone can keep it all right here between now and the game.

  • Reminder tip-off is at 9:30 p.m. Night before Thanksgiving is always a big bar night, so not expecting earth shattering numbers here..lol

    Hopefully, I'll be able to participate unless my wife makes me go out. No offense boys but if I have to choose between you and the 5'8" hot blonde chick, I'm taking hercrackwhip

    Girls I'd invited to my Bar Mitzvah would ask me what the rabbi whispers in your ear at the end of the service, as the crowd watches on. It's God's directive to ALL his children. It means, Heal The World. Gregpitt practices Tikkun Olam.

    The reason I started this lengthy bullshit is simply to say, I wish he posted more- not just about football. He has the opportunity to visit and view reality as few professions have the opportunity to do.

    Interesting "Shalom" means more than "peace" but "to restore things as they were intended to be - to restore the fabric of society" (hence helping the poor is important to our church). Very similar to Tikkun olam which means "repairing the world".

  • What do they mean by "Field Goal"? I never seen anyone kick the ball into the basket.

    Oh...I am sorry this isn't the Guru Grill.. Just going out for a few pops and will be back for the game.

    Really excited win or lose. It is why I like college basketball in many ways over college football. You can't lose a Championship in November.

  • I could be very very wrong .. but Michigan looked like a national title contender to me. This game could get ugly unless Pitt is ready to go.

    If we compete, then we have a shot at a special season.

  • I just saw part of an article saying Michigan has no (or not much) height but very good guards. The question is will Pitt take advantage of this? Their tallest player is 6'8" (other than a freshman who get little playing time). We need to pound it in with our biggies.

  • Michigan's essentially 7 deep .. thus far this season.

    6-0 = 32 min/g
    6-4 = 18
    6-6 = 31
    6-6 = 31
    6-6 = 23
    6-8 = 20
    6-10 = 13

    They play big .. long and athletic. They are the type of team that has given us trouble in the past. THe hope is that we have the athleticism now to match up and the height as well.

  • I don't know if it will help or not but the Oakland game turned out to be the best results from that game PITT fan's and team could expect.

    They literally found themselves that game. I understand that Michigan is very good. MSG is good for PITT. I hope I don't get a headache tonite.

    To be fair their games were over pretty early, so they were able to get some guys some extra minutes.

    Pitt is legitimately nine deep. Michigan may only have six quality contributors. I suspect they aren't THAT thin, but we shall see.

    The point is that Michigan's 6-6/6-8 guys are very strong, very long and very athletic. It'll be a struggle.

  • When the kids were little I had my Beauviers living outside, on the deck. No one ever messed with my family. One was named Rubin and his successor, Ruby. I remember awakening one Saturday morning before a fb. game to find the front half of a wolverine like creature, with head, trunk and forepaws, and Rubin with a wry smile on his face. We had no games against Mich. that day or in the next 20 years. Rubin read Kaballah and saw tonight.

  • I agree with pappy. The Oakland game was good for this team. An early wake up call, having to fight back and win it in OT. Great experience for a young team. Robinson is a beast on D.

    I'm good to go now, relaxing in with the little one while the wife gets the other two kiddies to bed.

    Let's go Pitt.

  • OK .. let's cut the crap .. with sheers.

    Size-wise .. Pitt and Michigan are essentially identical aside from one man .. Steve Adams. The big guy needs to make his presence felt and not get into foul trouble. He's our trump card.

    Depth .. Pitt has the advantage by far. We need to wear them down with fresh legs. I say keep the tempo up.

    Athleticism .. that's where Michigan might have the edge. Individual matchups could undo us. We might have slightly the advantage of them vertically .. but they move quick and are ranked #4 for a da## good reason.

    In the end .. it always comes down to making shots. Who will shoot for a higher percentage? If Adams disrupts on defense .. and we drive to the hoop .. then i like our chances.
