Ummm....interesting. I will have more comments on this later. But funny, a guy I know relayed me a story about Jamie being, well, a dick in his meeting with him. And I am not anti-Jamie.
But I have just posted on TOS some of the same concerns, especially in regards to assistants. Slice, Rice, Lombardi, Herrion, all were strong assistants who went on to head coaching jobs. Do you see a head coach on this staff??
Can't say if he's tough on players, but a good friend of mine did some drinking with JD in his company's box at a football game. He told me Jamie was one of the weirdest dudes he's ever met.
I know a guy who is a head bb coach at a small college. A few years ago his team played Pitt. His team played well but of course they lost. This didn't bother him because again, they played well. After the game JD wouldn't talk to him. My friend found this to be a little strange.
When he told me this. I didn't think anything of it. But after reading this thread. Now I'm wondering.......
Yeah, I was completely surprised when my friend relayed me the story.
As for the assistants.....every year we heard about a Pitt player winning "most improved" player. You had guys like Troutman, Knight, Gray, Graves, Krauser, Young, Wanamaker etc....who when they were Seniors were All Big East players when they started out slow.
Now? Guys like JJ Moore, Tray Woodall, Dante Taylor, etc.... who haven't really evolved or improved. And those 3 guys were much more regarded out of HS (at least Moore and Taylor) than the above group. I think our bench guys are horrible and I understand keeping Brandin around, but I would look to jettison Sandle and Barton and bring in two other guys. Hell, I would bring Slice back for one.
vince lombardi, jimmie johnson, bill parcells, bob knight, etc etc.
give me a break. this is an all time, epically absurd statement.
we didn't get a great group in last year or this year's seniors. none of them worked particularly hard or displayed any leadership. we're still ranked. and jamie has the highest winning percentage ever in the toughest bb conference in the history of the game. good grief you guys.
What in particular was absurd? I didn't see one message that said dixon couldn't coach.
Just think it's a lack of leadership. They had some weak classes and the upperclassment aren't particularly good at this point. Jaime just needs to put a killer class together next year and we'll be fine. But having 5-6 wing players with one of them being able to shoot kills our depth. We have bad low post play and a big lack of physicality. He also will not play Taylor and Adams together for some reason.
Interesting OWT and Pres.......I do think there are some concerns regarding Jamie...
1. Why is Barton still on the staff? Who has he recruited? In watching games he doesnt seem to be that active in providing input during time outs or even providing coaching on the bench.
2. Outside of GIbbs why has he failed to recruit guys who can shoot.?
3. Why do guys seem so tenative on the offensive end?
4. With supposedly better athletes, why do we still play a more deliberate offense and rarely attempt to press?
5. The lack of development from guys like Moore and Taylor is puzzling.
6. The misses in recruiting for a program that has had Pitts success is also a concern.
7. While Adams oozes potential, he seems to lack the agressiveness you would expect form a kid who has his athleticism and height. How often has he been around the hoop and made no attempt to dunk the ball but instead barely lifted off the floor and put up a week shot?
This year was clearly a transitoin year with JROB and Adams being true frosh. HOwever, netxt year is a key year IMO. This team should make noise in the NCAA's next year. If they dont, the seat may begin to get a bit warm for JD.
A "Real PITT MAN"............get off my porch!
They could miss the NIT next year and the seat wouldn't be getting warm for Dixon. Ridiculous.

I personally think the talent that has been brought in has been grossly overrated by the national evaluators.
Look no further than Khem Birch. I'm not a bball expert by any means, but it didn't take much to see that he was extremely raw and his physical skill was a little overrated when he was at the McDonald's game. People said that Jamie's system handcuffed him and that is why he couldn't produce like a McD AA. So, now he's gone and he's playing in a wide open fun and gun offense against much weaker competition and as of tonight is averaging
