Super Bowl to have Pitt connections

Baltimore Raven Head Coach John Harbaugh will become the third former University of Pittsburgh to lead his team to a Super Bowl, following Jon Gruden, and Mike McCarthy in the past 11 years.

Former Panther Teryl Austin will coach the Ravens secondary

Gruden was a wide receiver coach under Paul Hackett in 1991, McCarthy was a wide receiver coach coach under Paul Hackett in 1992. Harbaugh coached tight ends at Pitt in 1987

John Harbaugh and his brother Jim Harbaugh, are the first brothers to coach in the NFL, they will also be the first brothers to face each other as coaches in Super Bowl History.

Jack Harbaugh the Father of John and Jim, also coached at Pitt in 1987 and 1988, before taking the head coaching job at Western Kentucky. Harbaugh is the Brother in Law of former Pitt head coach Mike Gottfried.

Also representing Pitt for the Ravens, will be former Panther quarterback Joe Flacco. Flacco transferred to Delaware before the 2005 season.

Also with the Ravens is former Pitt defensive back Teryl Austin, Austin a Sharon {PA] native coaches the secondary for the Ravens. Austin was a 4 year letterwinner at Pitt, and a 3 year starter. Austin position coach his last season at Pitt was Jack Harbaugh.

Pitt connections from the San Francisco 49ers, will be quarterback coach Geep Chryst, Geep is the brother of current Pitt head coach Paul Chryst.

Mike Solari the offensive line coach of the 49ers, coached the offensive line at Pitt in 1986.

Handling the punting duties for the 49ers, will be former Panther Andy Lee, Lee is a former 3 year starter at Pitt.
